AFMC Professional Development Curriculum: Foundational Practice

Foundational Practice:

The Foundational Practice curriculum consists of 11 bilingual & interactive competency-based modules, with topics introducing and explaining the dimensions of the Canadian opioid crisis, core concepts of pain management, and opioid stewardship.

Learners will delve into crucial topics, including the dimensions of the opioid crisis, core principles of pain management, and responsible opioid stewardship. Designed to meet the evolving standards of care, our curriculum empowers healthcare professionals to expand their skill set and provide comprehensive care to patients with addiction.

Upon completion of the modules, participants will emerge equipped to:

Collaborate with patients in pain management strategies
Effectively communicate the potential side effects of opioids
Address the unique needs of individuals living with opioid use disorder
Tailor prescriptions based on thorough patient assessment
Assist patients in safely storing and disposing of opioids

Fees: $499 CAD / learner for one year access from date of purchase

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC):
Established the Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ) Assessment Development Committee and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) Assessment Development Committee which were responsible for developing a bank of MCQ’s and OSCE’s relevant to the curriculum for randomized inclusion on the MCC Qualifying Examinations I & II.

Accreditation Details

This online at your own pace program is accredited by Queen's University for up to 16.75 Self-Assessment learning hours for the Royal College, 16.75 Mainpro+ credits in the Self-Learning Category for the CFPC, and 16.75 hours of professional development for all health professionals.

Through an agreement between the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and the Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners, healthcare practitioners participating in the QCHP CME/CPD program may record MOC Section 1 or MOC Section 3 credits as QCHP Category 1 or Category 3 credits.
