This evening session will review practical tips and tricks for preceptors who teach medical learners in a community setting. Discussions will include 'Coaching in Medical Learning', ' Providing High-Quality Feedback to Learners (in a CBME model)' and 'Building a Teaching Dossier'. This program is accredited for up to 2 credits for Royal College and Family Medicine Specialists and provides up to 2 hours of learning for all health professionals.

While this event will be hosted in-person, a virtual link is available for those who register and cannot make it on site. Community preceptors from the area are invited to join.

Speakers:

Dr. S. Zaki Ahmed
Dr. S. Zaki Ahmed is an Internist, Respirologist, and Intensivist by training and has been involved in medical education since the formative years of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and led the creation of the Medical Clinical Teaching Unit in Thunder Bay, Ontario. He is a Registered Coach and a Certified Physician Executive. He brings these experiences to his role as Chief of Staff at Humber River Hospital.

 

Dr. Jennifer Turnnidge
Dr. Jennifer Turnnidge is a Health Education Researcher & Consultant with the Office of Professional Development and Educational Scholarship (OPDES). She received her PhD in Sport Psychology from Queen’s University. She collaborates closely with teams throughout the research process, including writing grants, ethics applications, data collection and analysis, and knowledge translation activities.

 

Dr. Karen Schultz
Having grown up on the west coast and then doing my BSc on the east coast at Dalhousie University I subsequently obtained my medical degree and did my family medicine training at Queen’s. The majority of my working career has been in the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s. I had the pleasure of being the FM Program Director for 8 years, and more recently the Associate Dean, Postgraduate Medical Education for the last 2.5 years.

 

Dr. Rajeevan Rasasingham
Dr. Rasasingham is the Director of Continuing Professional and Practice Development for the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. He is the National Chair of CPD Directors in Psychiatry in Canada and has been instrumental in advancing Continuing Professional Development nationally in Psychiatry. His research has focused on virtual care and practice change in CPD. He has been awarded the Council on Psychiatric Continuing Education Award and the Ivan Silver Award for Innovation.

 

Dr. Priya Sood
Dr. Priya Sood is the Postgraduate Site Program Director for FamilyMedicine at Humber River Hospital.
Dr. Sood is leading theestablishment of Humber River Hospital’s Schulich Centre for FamilyMedicine. She is committed to developing a residency programcentered on equitable, community-based family medicine. Dr. Sood is aFull Time Assistant Professor at the University of Toronto Departmentof Family and Community Medicine with a clinical focus oncomprehensive family medicine practice and inpatient palliative care.

 

Dr. Eleftherios (Terry) Soleas
Terry is the Director of Continuing Professional Development as well as Adjunct Faculty at Queen's Health Sciences. His research focusses on motivation, learning science, and professional development most often using mixed-method approaches. His interests include trying to be funny, baking, and loudly discussing current events through justice lenses.

 

Parking/Instructions to get to the Auditorium:

  • Directions from the West Parkade: The Auditorium is located on the 3rd floor on the West side of the hospital. Please take the West Outpatient elevators to the 3rd floor.
  • Directions from the East Parkade: The Auditorium is located on the 3rd floor on the West side of the hospital. Please enter through the East Entrance and proceed to walk all the way down the hall and take the West Outpatient elevators to the 3rd floor.
