Dr. Wiley Chung is a thoracic surgeon and an Associate Professor of Surgery at Queen’s University, where he also holds the distinction of Reznick Scholar in Health Professions Education. He serves as the Director of Interprofessional Education and the Director of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, Indigeneity, and Accessibility (EDIIA) in the MD Program. He has completed a Master's in Health Professions Education at Queen’s University.
He is the founder and principal investigator of the Chung Lab, a high-impact, multidisciplinary research team comprised of over 50 active research assistants - including undergraduate Health Sciences students, medical, nursing, physical and occupational therapy trainees, as well as graduate students, residents, and clinical fellows. The lab is co-led by Dr. Elita Laios, Director of Research, whose leadership has been instrumental in driving collaborative scholarship and learner development. Together, they lead multiple concurrent projects focused on operating room team resiliency, psychological safety, EDIIA-integrated education, interprofessional learning, and surgical quality improvement. With a strong track record of peer-reviewed funding, national conference presentations, and robust trainee mentorship, the lab is recognized for translating educational scholarship into meaningful system change.
Dr. Chung also co-founded the Health Professions Education Research Cluster at Queen’s University to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and build capacity in educational scholarship.
He led the development of Queen’s first Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Training Program and established the inaugural EDIIA Advisory Committee within the MD Program. His work bridges educational innovation and clinical leadership, and he is currently completing a PhD in Health Quality at Queen’s University and an Executive MBA at the University of Oxford.
