Dr. Marian Luctkar-Flude is an Associate Professor at Queen’s University School of Nursing and a Reznick Scholar in Health Professions Education. She has extensive experience with high-fidelity patient simulation, interprofessional education and online learning. Her current program of research focuses on virtual simulation game design and faculty development, and she is recognized nationally and internationally for her expertise in simulation education and research. Dr. Luctkar-Flude is a co-founder and Co-President of the Canadian Alliance of Nurse Educators using Simulation (CAN-Sim) and a Fellow of the Canadian Nurse Educator Institute. She co-created and teaches in the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) Canadian Simulation Nurse Educator Certification program. She was the 2019 recipient of the Principal’s Educational Technology Award at Queen’s University for advancing the use of technology such as virtual simulation games in undergraduate nursing education, the 2019 CASN Pat Griffin Nursing Education Research Scholar Award, and the 2020 RNFOO Nurse Innovator Award. She was awarded the 2021 Council of University Programs of Nursing (COUPN) Award for Strategic Contribution to Nursing Education and the 2023 Society for Simulation in Healthcare Award for Innovation in Virtual Simulation for her leadership role in CAN-Sim and development of virtual simulation games that were utilized across Ontario, Canada and globally to supplement and replace clinical learning experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
