Presenter: Dr. Michelle Gibson

Dr. Michelle Gibson obtained her medical degree at Memorial University of Newfoundland in 1999, and then came to Queen’s University for Family Medicine and Care of the Elderly. She has worked in the Division of Geriatric Medicine since 2002, currently at the position of Assistant Professor. 

Clinically, Dr. Gibson primarily has outpatient responsibilities, most often in the Seniors Day Rehabilitation, which provides outpatient interdisciplinary geriatric assessment and rehabilitation. In addition, Dr. Gibson shares responsibility for the Geriatric Inpatient unit at Providence Care Hospital, in outpatient geriatric medicine clinics, and occasionally on consultations at KGH.    

Dr. Gibson has held a number of educational leadership roles.  She is the Assistant Dean, Curriculum for Undergraduate Medical Education at Queen’s University. Previously she has been the Director of Year 1, and also the Director of Student Assessment. In addition, she is the past Program Director for Care of the Elderly.       

Her scholarly interests are in medical education. She completed her M.Ed. at Queen’s University in 2012 with a focus on assessment of medical students in clinical rotations.  She has presented on varied topics including novel assessment practices, the use of social media in medical education, and curricular reform.
