Life Sciences 4th Year Advanced Course Selection
As we prepare for the upcoming academic year and course registration period, we have put together a survey to streamline sub-plan declaration and advanced course selection for students entering their fourth year of the Life Sciences Program.
Please note: this survey is only for 4th year core and option courses, it does not include electives or 1st, 2nd, or 3rd year courses. GLPH and IDIS coded courses are electives for your Life Sciences Honours plan.
The survey will be sent to your official Queen’s email address and will be open from May 27th – June 17th, 2024, at 9:00AM ET.
If you submit multiple responses to the survey, only your most recent submission will be considered.
If you have any questions throughout this process, please reach out to lifesci@queensu.ca .
Switching from Major to SSP or vice versa:
Would you like to switch from SSP to Major or vice versa? From May 27th through June 30th, 2024 you will need to submit a Change of Plan request through the Faculty of Arts and Science.
Complete your change of plan before starting the survey, as requirements differ for SSP and MAJ students.
Course Selection:
The survey will ask you to rank your top six choices in order of preference (course, term of offering, and mode of delivery). Please ensure you have the required pre-requisites for all courses you choose. If you are missing a pre-requisite, do not choose the course during pre-selection. This process is not first-come, first-served, so there is no need to rush through your selections. Take your time and ensure you follow the instructions; the Programs Office will not accept changes via email once you submit your preferences or make changes on your behalf. However, you may re-submit your choices prior to the deadline using the survey link should you need to make changes. You are not guaranteed your top choice, even if it is the only course that you have chosen. If there is a certain course that you want to take that has multiple offerings (term/format) in the upcoming year, you can choose multiple offerings of the course as your choices (in order of your preference) to increase your chances of being able to take the course.
Note: If you only choose one course, it could potentially be full by the time we reach your request. We will randomly work through all requests, beginning with SSP students.
We will do our best to accommodate all fourth-year course requests, but our primary aim is to ensure students have the required courses to satisfy their degree requirements.
Courses you have been assigned will be preloaded into SOLUS before registration begins. Once your enrolment appointment time arrives, it will be your responsibility to make any desired changes (adding or dropping courses or adding yourself to any wait lists).
Due to limited space, if you drop a course, the Programs Office will not re-enrol you. You will need to re-enrol yourself or add yourself to the wait list if there are no remaining open seats. This may affect the completion of your degree.
Note: In previous years we have not seen much movement with wait lists until Open Enrolment begins and students are able to add 18.0 units per term. This begins on August 19th, 2024.
Major Students:
Core: You have no third or fourth year required core courses.
Option: You need 3.0 units at the 400 level or above; 15.0 units at the 300 level or above; 9.0 units at the 200 level or above; 6.0 unit any level. LISC_List_A.

Specialization Students:
Core courses will be pre-loaded for you only if you select them in this survey (i.e., if you have declared the Cancer Research sub-plan you should select CANC 440 as this is a requirement of the sub-plan).
The Programs Office will not be cross-referencing your sub-plan selection with your course selection to ensure you are selecting the required courses; this is your responsibility.
