Purpose:
The project aims to understand and foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity within the Queen's University Faculty of Health Sciences and the surrounding Kingston community. The project has two main objectives:
- Collection of stories/testimonies: The project will actively collect stories from Faculty of Health Science learners, staff, and faculty members, as well as Kingston community members accessing health services. These stories will help inform quality improvement efforts. Some of the stories will also be transformed into case studies and utilised within the curriculum to enhance understanding and empathy. They will also contribute to the development of a resource bank of case studies and scenarios for curriculum and professional development purposes – benefiting learners, staff, faculty members, and community members.
- Continual tracking of belonging experiences: The Queen’s Health Sciences Belonging Project is a system for continuous monitoring and assessment of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Kingston community members’ experiences of belonging. Data will be collected in an ongoing way using this instrument, enabling learners, staff, faculty and community members continual opportunity to report their sense of belonging, identify areas of strength and for improvement, and anonymously share incidents of harassment or discrimination. This ongoing feedback will inform the creation of a more inclusive and supportive environment within Kingston and in the Queen's University Faculty of Health Sciences
