Dean Jane Philpott has appointed Megan Sheppard as Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) for Queen’s Health Sciences (QHS) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the Southeastern Ontario Academic Medical Organization (SEAMO) effective September 18, 2023.
As CFAO for QHS, Sheppard reports to Dean Philpott and directs the overall financial and business operations and has oversight of all non-academic matters within the faculty. As a member of the Dean's executive team, Sheppard will collaborate with senior leaders across the faculty and university to provide strategic financial guidance, manage operations, and contribute to short and long-term strategic plans. The financial services, human resources, IT, marketing and communications, and operations and administration functions fall under the CFAO portfolio.
As CFO for SEAMO, Sheppard will report to Dr. Philpott in her role as SEAMO CEO. She will be an integral member of the SEAMO Executive and have financial oversight of SEAMO’s operations. Sheppard will play a key role in supporting the Resources & Audit Committee and will provide critical financial expertise for the continued success of the organization.
Dean Philpott wishes to thank Troy Jones for fulfilling the CFAO and CFO positions on an interim basis since August 2022. During his tenure, he has provided expert counsel to the Dean and members of the QHS leadership team. Through a collaborative approach, Troy's leadership has facilitated moving the faculty towards financial sustainability and continued execution of its strategic priorities.
Sheppard is a collaborative and strategic leader skilled in budgeting, data analytics, human resource management, strategic and capital planning, and finance. She has extensive experience working in higher education administration, most recently in the role of Senior Vice-President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer at St. Lawrence College (SLC), holding the same role at Loyalist College prior to that appointment. She joined SLC in February 2020 and was the executive lead for the college’s COVID-19 response related to risk, safety and security, financial management and facilities. As SVP Corporate Services she provided executive leadership and oversight of the finance, budgeting, IT, risk, facilities management and planning, sustainability and insurance functions. Notably, Sheppard spent 10 years (2008-2018) working at Queen’s in the Planning and Budgeting department in the roles of Associate Vice-Principal and Executive Director, where she was responsible for university budgeting, institutional research and planning, and university planning. Prior to that she was the Director of Budget & Planning where she was responsible for the University Operating and Ancillary Budgets.
Sheppard earned a Masters of Business Administration (Finance) from Dalhousie University and a Bachelors of Commerce from the University of Guelph. She is a Member of the Administrative Services Committee of Colleges Ontario (ASCC) and a Liaison for the Ontario Colleges Facilities Management Association to Colleges Ontario.
Sheppard’s familiarity with Queen’s and extensive post-secondary experience will serve her well in the positions of CFAO and CFO.
Please join Dean Philpott in congratulating Sheppard on her appointment and welcoming her to QHS and SEAMO.
