Big questions
Real-world possibilities

QHS research is improving the lives of people and patients, and leading change in health systems. Some highlights:

This year, cancer researchers demonstrated that a prescribed exercise program can help prevent colon cancer recurrence, making international headlines, and giving new hope to survivors.
The new Clinical Trial Support Unit helped researchers make trials timelier and more efficient, providing services to more than 60 trials in QHS.
Three faculty members were appointed to ‘scientist in residence’ roles at Providence Care Hospital, bringing innovation to occupational therapy, family medicine, and primary care.

The people
behind the progress

Faculty and staff at QHS were hard at work on service, education, and research this year. Some highlights:

Successful accreditation of our 30 postgraduate medical education programs, and integration of the clinical simulation labs for nursing and medicine into one centre.
Of the many awards and achievements earned by staff and faculty, Curtis Nickel was named to the Order of Canada and Jamaica Cass was named to the Order of Ontario. Lesley Seymour was elected as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
Alana Korczynski (Health Sciences), Colleen Donahoe (Nursing), and the Postgraduate Medical Education Team received the university’s Special Recognition for Staff Awards.

Leading tomorrow

We’re proud to have students come to QHS from across Ontario, Canada, and from over 40 countries around the world. Some highlights:

Many students earned awards and scholarships, including BHSc graduate Adham El Sherbini, was named a 2026 Rhodes Scholar. Oluwamismi Oluwole (BNSc’26) was awarded the Agnes Benidickson Tricolour Award, Tristan Sinnatamby received the Professional Association of Residents of Ontario (PARO) Award for Citizenship and Kyle Comishen earned the PARO Resident Teaching Award.
Others met goals outside of school pursuits, including Hallie Clarke and Allison Mackie who competed in the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic games.

04PHILANTHROPY

Generosity opens
new possibilities

QHS is grateful for the generosity and spirit of our alumni and donors. Some highlights:

$7 million gift from the Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation to support research in gene therapy to treat rare childhood diseases, and research to advance healthy aging.
Nancy Tatham and Donna Henderson generously renewed their support of the Chair, Indigenous Health role held by Dr. Sarah Funnell.
The William J. Henderson Foundation provided funds in support of the Translational Institute of Medicine’s Core Facility, which was renamed the W.J. Henderson Collaboratory in Biosciences.
