It was brought to our attention that one of our faculty members has been associated with a facebook page that posted racist and inappropriate content, and used their personal twitter account to ‘like’ content that is racist and inappropriate.
This type of content, which targets and marginalizes Black people, completely diverges from our values, and we condemn it unequivocally.
It is important that the status quo on racism be challenged. The Queen’s community is committed to confronting and bringing an end to racism, and holding our institutions of government accountable for equity and justice. Further, the recent Dean on Campus blog post echoes our position on anti-Black racism. Our Human Rights and Equity office offers education and a space where these difficult, essential conversations on fighting racism can flourish.
We recognize that content like this can incite feelings of anger, sadness and distress; we stand in solidarity with students, staff and faculty who may have felt targeted or marginalized by these actions.
We would like to assure you that we are looking into this further in order to gain a better understanding of the activities that have taken place, and what our future actions should be.
