Mark your calendars for the following Queen's Health Sciences events happening throughout the month leading up to September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR). Unless specified, all events will be held in the NEST, School of Medicine Building, Room 402. - Sept. 10, 5:30 p.m. - QHS Indigenous Learner Medicine Bag Session. Indigenous learners who would like to attend, please contact valarezo@queensu.ca.
- Sept. 18, 4 p.m. - The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) Apology Viewing: The Canadian Medical Association (CMA) is issuing an apology for harms committed against Indigenous peoples across Canada in the health system, both through action and in action. The QHS Office of Indigenous Health will also be hosting an in-person gathering to watch the video feed on September 18 at 4 pm in the School of Medicine Building Room 132A. - Sept. 25, 12:30 - 2 p.m. - QHS Office of Indigenous Health Grand Opening: Please join us for this special event in SOM 402. A few words from QHS leadership will be shared and food provided. Sponsored by the Queen's University Inclusive Community Fund.
- Sept. 25, 5 - 7 p.m. - IPAC Mentorship Gathering: All Indigenous learners, staff, and faculty are invited to this networking event hosted by the Indigenous Physicians Association of Canada to learn about the association and how you benefit from joining. Register here.
- Sept. 26, 6 p.m. - Talk by Joe Pitawanakwat of Creators Garden: Hear from traditional healer, Joe Pitawanakwat, to learn about traditional medicines. School of Medicine Building, Room 132. Register for in-person or online.
- Sept. 30 - 1-3 p.m. - Sacred Fire, Agnes Benidickson Field: The Sacred Fire is an opportunity for the entire Queen’s community to join together on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to reflect on the harm brought to Indigenous Peoples by the residential school system. This is also a time to understand our collective role in advancing Truth and Reconciliation, not just at Queen’s, but across Canada.
