Please join us in congratulating Dr. Tony Sanfilippo, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) on receiving the 2021 Queen’s University Distinguished Service Award.
The Distinguished Service Awards recognize those who have made Queen’s University “a better place through their extraordinary contributions.” Recipients must be nominated by staff members, faculty, students, retirees or alumni. Nominations must demonstrate the impact of the contributions given to the university, as well as the length of time they dedicated to Queen’s University.
Dr. Sanfilippo is recognized for his leadership throughout his tenure as Associate Dean of UGME. Of particular note, Dr. Sanfilippo was instrumental in transforming the undergraduate medical curriculum to a competency-based model, positioning Queen’s as the leader in curricular innovation for undergraduate medical education in Canada. A passionate champion for his students, he led the establishment and growth of a student wellness services unit for medical students, an initiative that will have an impact on learners for years to come. A testament to his desire to create the best possible learning experience, Dr. Sanfilippo developed strong ties with partner hospitals, ensuring a rich educational experience for both students and faculty members.
