The Faculty of Health Sciences is pleased to announce that Dr. Richard Reznick, Dean Emeritus, Faculty of the Health Sciences, has been appointed as the 46th President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is a national association that strives for excellence in medical education and physician competence. Their responsibilities include accrediting university programs that train resident physicians, administering resident examinations, and collaborating with government agencies to develop sound health policy.
As the new President, effective as of February 25, 2021, Dr. Reznick plans to champion the continued implementation of Competence by Design, a once in a generation change in the training of future medical specialists. He also aims to support the College’s ongoing work on equity, diversity and inclusion, promote cultural safety in health care, and continue to reinforce the importance of establishing Indigenous health in postgraduate medical education. Further, he wants to listen, support and engage trainees and Fellows of the Royal College throughout their careers.
Dr. Reznick has had an impressive career as an educator and a physician. In addition to being Dean Emeritus of the Faculty of Health Sciences, he is also the former chair for the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto, the former vice president of education at University Health Network, and the founding director of the Wilson Centre, a renowned health profession education research institute.
Dr. Reznick has also served in various leadership capacities over the course of nearly three decades with the Royal College. This includes acting in the role of vice president of education and vice chair of Royal College International.
