The faculty of health sciences is pleased to announce that the Canadian Alliance of Nurse Educators Using Simulation (CAN-Sim), under the leadership of Dr. Marian Luctkar-Flude and Dr. Jane Tyerman (uOttawa), has received an award for Strategic Contribution to Nursing Education from the Council of Ontario University Programs in Nursing (COUPN).
Working for the prosperity of Ontario’s nursing students, COUPN provides leadership in the area of nursing education and scholarship. Each year, COUPN recognizes an individual or group who has contributed significantly to this vision with their award for Strategic Contribution to Nursing Education.
Due to the organization’s pioneering work in simulation, CAN-Sim is the 2021 recipient of this award. The award is also an acknowledgment of the virtual support that CAN-Sim has provided to nursing students through the pandemic. This includes their role in the development of a COVID-19 assessment module and PPE virtual simulation game which has already been accessed over 2 million times.
Dr. Luctkar-Flude, Associate Professor in the School of Nursing, is the CAN-Sim co-president and a lead developer of the virtual support initiatives that COUPN is acknowledging with this award. Dr. Luctkar-Flude, along with co-president Dr. Jane Tyerman, accepted the award on behalf of their team, at a virtual ceremony on Friday, April 20th.
