Queen’s Health Sciences is pleased to congratulate Dr. Jamaica Cass on her recent appointment to the Order of Ontario. Announced by Lt.-Gov. Edith Dumont on Feb. 17, the Order of Ontario recognizes those “whose distinguished service and extraordinary achievements have helped build a stronger Ontario and Canada.”
A national leader in Indigenous health and medical education, Dr. Cass serves as the director of Indigenous health within the Department of Family Medicine and director of the Queen's Weeneebayko Health Education Program. She is a family physician working in her home community of Tyendinaga, and a proud member of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
Recognized for driving “systemic change through governance, curriculum reform, and national best-practice guidelines,” the appointment highlights the way Dr. Cass's leadership and mentorship advances Truth and Reconciliation, expands representation, and transforms health outcomes for Indigenous communities.
The announcement will be followed by an investiture ceremony in Toronto later this year. For the full Queen's 2025 Order of Ontario Appointees list, please visit the Queen's Alumni website.
