The late Dr. Angela Garcia is the recipient of the 2019 Irma M. Parhad award for Excellence from the Consortium of Canadian Centres for Clinical Cognitive Research (C5R). Dr. Garcia, a geriatrician and Professor, retired from the Department of Medicine in 2015. She was a passionate advocate for patient wellness, and along with her many achievements, she developed a rich research portfolio that included investigations of cognition and various biomarkers or predictors of dementia. She created and implemented training modules for family doctors for earlier detection of mild dementia. She also served on international working groups to advance the diagnosis and treatment of dementia globally.
