On the recommendation of Dean Lisa Tannock, Matthew Evans, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic), has reappointed Dr. David M. Berman as Head, Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine for a second term effective July 1, 2026. He has also been reappointed Head, Department of Pathology and Molecular Medicine at Kingston Health Sciences Centre.
Dr. Berman joined Queen’s University in 2012 from the pathology faculty at Johns Hopkins University, where he completed his residency and post-doctoral fellowship in molecular biology and genetics. He served as Director of the Queen’s Cancer Research Institute (now Sinclair Cancer Research Institute) and led a focus on transdisciplinary cancer research which attracted distinguished investigators to Queen’s from around the world and improved collaboration across translational research teams.
Dr. Berman is a clinician-scientist whose expertise and research in bladder and prostate cancers are widely acknowledged. He leads translational research efforts at Queen’s and nationally, engaging urologists, medical and radiation oncologists, pathologists, basic and data scientists, trainees, and patient advocates. He is the Editor-in-Chief of Laboratory Investigation and has served as an external advisor to the International Society of Urologic Pathologists, the Canadian Cancer Society, and Canadian Cancer Trials Group.
