Queen’s Health Sciences is pleased to announce that Mark Green, Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s University, has appointed Dr. Colleen Davison as the inaugural Associate Dean, Equity and Social Accountability, Queen’s Health Sciences (QHS). Her appointment is effective January 1, 2022 for a three-year term.
Reporting to the Dean, QHS, the Associate Dean, Equity and Social Accountability, is responsible for the development and implementation of activities and initiatives to promote equity, diversity, inclusivity, accessibility, social accountability, and cultural safety in QHS. In this role, Dr. Davison will co-lead the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, along with the Associate Dean, Indigenous Health and Reconciliation, who will be recruited in 2022.
Dr. Davison’s appointment was made on the recommendation of an Advisory Search Committee chaired by Dr. Leslie Flynn, Vice-Dean of Education. The search committee was composed of a diversity of stakeholders across Queen’s University and its partner institutions to reflect the faculty’s values around equity, diversity, inclusion, Indigeneity, and accessibility (EDIIA). The recommendation was supported by Dean Jane Philpott and Dr. Brad Stoner, Head, Department of Public Health Sciences.
“For almost two decades, Dr. Davison has been leading and collaborating on equity-oriented projects, research and initiatives. At Queen’s Health Sciences, she has already done extensive work in this area across our three schools; she is a true embodiment of the faculty’s new strategic vision for radical collaboration,” says Dean Philpott. “I am thrilled to see her step into this new role, and I know that she will be a fantastic partner to our forthcoming Associate Dean, Indigenous Health and Reconciliation.”

Dr. Davison earned a BSc, BOR (Honours) and BEd at Lakehead University and an MPH at University of Glasgow (Scotland). She is a Pierre Elliott Trudeau Doctoral Scholar Alumni and earned a PhD in Population Health at University of Calgary. Her doctoral project was undertaken in collaboration with the Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency and the staff and students at Chief Jimmy Bruneau School in Behchokǫ̀, NWT. Following this, she completed a CIHR-funded Postdoctoral Fellowship in Knowledge Translation and Global Health at University of Ottawa.
Dr. Davison joined Queen’s University in 2011 and currently serves as Associate Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences with a cross appointment to the Department of Global Development Studies. She is a respected researcher and teacher with local and global partnerships. She has published 112 peer-reviewed papers, and her research focused on child and family health, health equity, equity-oriented research methodologies and community engagement has received nearly $9M in funding. She has served as Research Consultant for the Canadian Nurses Association, the National Collaborating Centre Determinants of Health, and the Canadian Coalition of Global Health Research. Dr. Davison has also held appointments as Consultant in Adolescent Health for UNICEF Mongolia and as Intern Health Promotion Officer for the Pan American Health Organization in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Her research and teaching have been acknowledged with numerous awards including the Emerging Researcher Award in 2012 from the Population Health Improvement Research Network of Ontario and the Vic Neufeld Award for Global Health Research Mentorship in 2020 from the Canadian Coalition for Global Health Research.
