The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) is pleased to announce the 2021 recipients of three annual education awards. The Faculty of Health Sciences Education Award, the Ron Wigle Mentorship Award, and the H.F. Pross Educational Technology Award are among the highest honours granted by FHS.
Drs. Oyedeji (Deji) Ayonrinde, Mohammad Auais, Kieran Moore, and Anne Duffy are the respective recipients of the 2021 awards. Each recipient will be presented with a plaque and congratulatory letter from FHS Dean Jane Philpott. The annual reception is to be held in the fall.

Faculty of Health Sciences Education Award: Dr. Oyedeji Ayonrinde & Dr. Mohammad Auais
Due to the competitive nature of this year’s nominees and the unprecedented circumstances in which they were able to excel, two individuals have been selected as the 2021 recipients of the Faculty of Health Sciences Education Award. The recipients are Dr. Oyedeji (Deji) Ayonrinde, Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, and Dr. Mohammad Auais, Assistant Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy. Recipients of this award demonstrate excellence in a range of teaching methods, course and curricular design, development of learning resources, use of education technology, evaluation, and innovation. Most importantly, recipients have evidence of a significant positive impact on student learning.
Dr. Ayonrinde has been selected as the recipient of this award as he goes above and beyond to ensure students are consistently supported and receive quality supervisory time. Dr. Ayonrinde is also a champion of cannabis education, specifically when it comes to understanding its impact on mental health, and has been invited by several organizations to act as a guest speaker and educational advisor on this topic.
Dr. Auais has been selected as the recipient of this award due to his wide range of excellent educational and mentorship skills. In order to foster engagement among students, Dr. Auais cultivates a learning environment that is respectful and responsive to their needs. In addition, Dr. Auais has been praised for his successful supervision of dozens of FHS students from a variety of disciplines.
Ron Wigle Mentorship Award: Dr. Kieran Moore
Dr. Kieran Moore, Professor in the Department of Emergency and Family Medicine, is the 2021 recipient of the Ron Wigle Mentorship Award. Recipients of this award demonstrate the highest standards of achievement in mentorship of others and have been identified by colleagues and learners as someone who exhibits qualities of keeping with the values of professionalism.
Dr. Moore has been selected as the recipient of this award due to his ability to go above and beyond normal expectations in every aspect of his position. He has been recognized as a steadfast role model for all learners who have an experience at KFL&A and Public Health and is known to nurture and grow his learners’ interests by providing individual mentorship as well as connecting learners with additional advisors.
H.F. Pross Educational Technology Award: Dr. Anne Duffy
Dr. Anne Duffy, Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, is the 2021 recipient of the H.F. Pross Educational Technology Award. Recipients of this award demonstrate leadership in the innovative use of educational technology in medical education, specifically that which is relevant to the strategic directions of the School of Medicine.
Dr. Duffy has been selected as the recipient of this award as it is evident that she is an innovator in the implementation of educational technology, particularly with respect to its application to her area of expertise in youth mental health. Most recently, Dr. Duffy collaborated with the Bachelor of Health Sciences program (BHSc) and the Office of Professional Development and Education Scholarship (OPDES) at Queen’s to create a fully-integrated, digital, learner-centred mental health literacy course intended for undergraduate students from varied backgrounds and disciplines.
