My name is Margaret Czart, Non-Tenure Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). I have earned a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) traditional degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2012. Throughout my Masters and Doctoral degrees in Public Health focused on Health Promotion, Health Education, Social Behavior Health Lifestyle Promotion and Management with a specialization in Public Health Informatics and Consumer Health Informatics. The title of my dissertation defense was “Teaching Motivational Interviewing using the Second Life Virtual World platform”. The dissertation focused on teaching and assessing medical residents and fellows in primary care to use motivational interviewing techniques to assist patients in addressing social behavior of healthy eating, smoking and alcohol drinking to prevent disease using simulations. The topic was selected based for the need to understand what social behaviors are and how they may influence health of individuals and populations
My scholarly interests’ ranges are in learning outcome assessment, program assessment and technology for education evaluation. I continuously strive to improve my skills both as a member of the teaching faculty and as an independent scholar in the areas of Higher Education, Distant Education and Health Care both domestically and internationally. The focus of my scholarly work is on assessing health professional’s knowledge in social behavior on addressing social behavior on health using both traditional health communication methods for disease prevention and using various technologies (web page to mobile application). The most recent education focuses on the use of 3D Virtual Reality Platforms for simulations and team collaborations to address various social behaviors using qualitative methods of observational, interviewing and survey design to address current health professional needs in addressing social behavior with health and digital literacy skills.
Finally, I am a Quality Matters Master Reviewer and earned Online Teaching Certifications. I serve as a member and volunteer for activities within the CAHIM Health Informatics Accreditation Council which includes the Standards Committee and Quality Committees. As my International Collaborative Service, I serve as a Community member for Queens University Research Committee in Ontario Canada.
