I am currently accepting doctoral students for co-supervision.*
My name is Margaret Czart, and I am a Non-Tenure Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). I earned my Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree from UIC in 2012, specializing in Health Promotion, Health Education, Social Behavior, and Public Health Informatics. My dissertation, titled “Teaching Motivational Interviewing using the Second Life Virtual World platform,” focused on training medical residents and fellows in primary care to use motivational interviewing techniques that assist patients in addressing social behaviors related to healthy eating, smoking, and alcohol consumption.
My scholarly interests include the assessment and evaluation of digital health information for accessibility and understandability, emphasizing universal design for patients. This work involves enhancing the accessibility and design of clinical health records and commercial health information platforms to facilitate effective health promotion and disease management. I aim to enhance my skills both as an educator and an independent scholar, focusing on higher education, Distance Education, and Healthcare, as well as evaluating health professionals’ knowledge in addressing social behaviors that affect health.
Additionally, I am a certified Quality Matters Program & Course Master/Peer Reviewer, and I hold a certification in Universal Design for Learning, which enables me to develop educational materials that address gaps in information literacy and promote healthier living.
*The primary supervisor must be a tenure-track faculty member with an appointment in the Queen's University School of Nursing.
