Dr. Robert (Bob) Connelly is a neonatologist and medical educator at Queen's University. He completed his MD degree at the University of Toronto in 1990, and his Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine training at Dalhousie University/IWK Health Centre from 1991 to 1998. He subsequently completed his MBA at Queen’s University in 2012. From 2013 to 2023, Bob served as the Head of Pediatrics at Queen’s University and Pediatrics Program Medical Director at the Kingston Health Sciences Centre. He was the President of the Pediatric Chairs of Canada from 2019 to 2021 and held the inaugural Queen’s Endowed Chair in Pediatric Research and Education from 2019 to 2023.
Over his career, Bob has held many educational leadership roles, including Program Director of the Queen’s Pediatrics residency training program. He has served on several Royal College specialty education committees and chaired both the Royal College MCQ Examination Committee in Pediatrics and the Specialty Committee for Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. His passion for education is infectious, and he has received multiple awards including the Canadian Association of Medical Education (CAME) Award of Merit and the Queen’s Aesculapian Society Lectureship Award for eleven consecutive years.
Complementing his leadership training and experience, design-thinking fuels Bob’s development and implementation of new strategies, whether in delivering a more compelling presentation or improving patient care. He is a self-described “typography nerd” and “geek wannabe” who is on the lookout for a better font for his presentations and new technologies to improve his productivity.
