Queen’s Health Sciences congratulates research scientist Dr. Lesley Seymour on her election as a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS). CAHS brings together the country’s top-ranked health and biomedical scientists and scholars to make a positive impact on the urgent health concerns of Canadians. Fellowship in the Academy is considered one of the highest honours awarded in Canada’s health sciences community.
Professor and medical oncologist in the Department of Oncology at Queen’s School of Medicine, Dr. Seymour is internationally recognized for her contributions to anticancer drug development and clinical trials methodology. She completed her training in Internal Medicine, Clinical Hematology & Medical Oncology, and earned a PhD focusing on correlative studies in breast cancer.
In her faculty role and as deputy director of the Canadian Cancer Trials Group and director of their Investigational New Drug program, Dr. Seymour has spent 30 years overseeing clinical trials. Her work has led to new treatments, particularly for thoracic malignancies, and focuses on patient-centred outcomes, inclusivity and accessibility.
“Election to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences acknowledges outstanding contributions to the health sciences,” says Dr. Trevor Young, President, CAHS. “We are proud of these Fellows’ accomplishments, and we are honoured to welcome them to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.”
