Dean Richard Reznick and Associate Dean Anthony Sanfilippo are pleased to announce that Tom Harris, Interim Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s University, has appointed Dr. Cherie Jones-Hiscock as the inaugural Assistant Dean, Academic Affairs and Programmatic Quality Assurance, Undergraduate Medical Education in the Faculty of Health Sciences. The appointment is for a five-year term beginning on July 1, 2018.

Dale Best Appointed Director, Financial Services

Denis Bourguignon, Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO), is pleased to announce that Dale Best has accepted the position of Director, Financial Services for the Faculty of Health Sciences. He will be starting in his new role on August 27th.

Vice Dean, Education Leslie Flynn is pleased to announce that Benoit Antoine-Bacon, former Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s University, has appointed Dr. Ingrid Harle as Director, Faculty Development for the Faculty of Health Sciences. The appointment is for a five-year period beginning on July 1.

Dr. James Reynolds Appointed Interim Chief Scientific Officer of Kids Brain Health Network

Dr. James Reynolds, Professor of Biomedical and Molecular Sciences, and Associate Dean in the School of Graduate Studies at Queen’s, has been appointed as the Interim Chief Scientific Officer of Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN).

TIME Uniweb is Now Live

The Translational Institute of Medicine (TIME) is proud to announce that its  new web-based research networking tool called TIME UNIWeb is live!  This user-friendly online platform helps seamlessly connect researchers and research groups with shared research interests at Queen’s University. Over 200 researchers and scholars have already signed up. Many members have already loaded their profiles, have established their connectivity creating research communities,  and it is rapidly growing every day.    

Dr. Richard van Wylick Appointed as Associate Dean, Professional Development

Dean Richard Reznick is pleased to announce that Benoit-Antoine Bacon, former Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) at Queen’s University, has appointed Dr. Richard van Wylick as Associate Dean, Professional Development, for the Faculty of Health Sciences. The appointment is for a five-year period beginning on July 1. Dr. van Wylick has been serving as the Interim Associate Dean of Continuing Professional Development since November.

Celebrating Career Milestones in the Faculty

On September 5th, we had one of my favourite annual events in the Faculty of Health Sciences: the Faculty Promotion Reception.  During this event, many of the Department Heads and I publically recognize our colleagues who have been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor or (Full) Professor. Celebrating these career milestones is important because it gives us, as a faculty, a chance to recognize the years of hard work and dedication that went into making these achievements possible. Nursing SOAR (Summer Orientation to Academics and Resources)

The SOAR program aims to help ease the transition of incoming first-year students and their families. Participants will have an opportunity to learn about academic expectations, resources, learning strategies, and common student transition issues, as well as meet upper-year students, tour a residence room, and have their questions and concerns addressed.

Incoming first-year Nursing students will have the opportunity to meet with faculty and current Nursing students, and tour the Nursing Simulation Lab.

Dr. DJ Cook Named One of Canada's Top 40 Under 40

Dr. DJ Cook, Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery and a Neurosurgeon at KHSC, has been named one of this year's Canada's Top 40 Under 40. Dr. Cook is being recognized for his work in developing minimally invasive surgical procedures for complex brain disorders, as well for his innovative research focusing on therapy and treatments to enhance recovery for patients who have suffered a stroke.
