Dr. Miller is an Assistant Professor in the School of Rehabilitation Therapy. His research broadly aims to reduce pain-related disability. Under this aim, his research focuses on three inter-related themes:
- Developing and testing interventions for people living with acute to chronic pain. Current research in this area includes the development and evaluation of self-management supports for people living with chronic pain and better understanding barriers and facilitators to adherence and participation in self-management and exercise interventions.
- Improving primary care management for people with musculoskeletal conditions and pain. Current research in this area includes evaluating a new model of primary care for people with low back pain that integrates rehabilitation professionals within primary care teams.
- Knowledge translation to facilitate evidence-based management of musculoskeletal conditions and pain. Current research under this theme includes knowledge syntheses (e.g. systematic reviews on effectiveness of interventions for people with neck pain) as well as the development and evaluation of knowledge translation interventions to facilitate evidence-based care for people with musculoskeletal injuries and pain. Also under this theme, Dr. Miller is investigating current pain education for health care professionals and evaluating knowledge translation activities aimed at improving the quality and consistency of pain education for physiotherapists across Canada.
